Occupational health professionals are at the front line of potential workplace violence events. This presentation will identify a cutting-edge program that has been recognized by federal and state authorities.
Since 1994, the Intel Corporation’s Workplace Violence Prevention Program has successfully managed what many believe was unmanageable – the seemingly random acts of workplace violence and threats of harm to employees and assets. The Workplace Response Team (WRT) has handled more than 4,000 cases with zero deaths due to workplace violence.
While media makes it appear that workplace violence is at an all-time high, this presentation will provide a reality check on what’s really occurring in the workplace. We will discuss risk mitigation issues, highlight how to distinguish between those who threaten and those who actually pose a threat, and when it’s safe to return someone to work. Hear representatives from occupational health, corporate security, human resources, human resources legal, and an outside board-certified forensic psychologist all of whom have dealt with threats of harm to self or others, extortion, sabotage, terrorism, stalking, and domestic violence that often spills into the workplace.
1. Distinguish between those who threaten and those who pose a threat.
2. Discuss the best methods of preventing workplace violence and identify pathways of aggression and offer mitigation suggestions.
3. Examine potential workplace violence scenarios and anticipate what you can do.
