Benchmarking in Occupational Health
Session Description:
Benchmarking is a process by which a company compares its performance and methods for a certain activity against that of a recognized leader or an outstanding competitor. Benchmarking in Occupational Health Clinics is currently optional and while not yet mandated, it is not inconceivable that regulatory organizations such as Joint Commission may impose requirements in the near future. Currently Ambulatory Health Care facilities and Occupational Health clinics can pursue accreditation under Joint Commission. Who should decide what entails benchmarking in Occupational Health? Current tools and opportunities will be explored including the Occupational Health Index and the ACOEM Corporate Health Achievement Award (CHAA).
Learning Objectives:
1. Define and explore benchmarking in healthcare settings.
2. Describe potential conflicts in healthcare benchmarking.
3. Explore and consider opportunities for benchmarking in occupational health.
