The Independent Medical Evaluation

This session will cover the four C's of IME provision: Clarification of Purpose, Complete Preparation, Comprehensive Evaluation, and Communication.

The IME will be defined, and the session will address why IMEs are conducted and what questions they are intended to answer. The speaker will share pearls of wisdom from his 25 years of IME practice, and share experiences and recommendations to the session attendees regarding how to navigate difficult situations and how to address legal challenges to their work.

Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the common reasons why an IME is done
2. Identify what a physician must do within an IME practice to meet "best practices"
3. Respond to difficulties encountered when performing IMEs, including trouble examinees, legal challenges, and report pitfalls.

Physicians who specialize in or have an interest in OEM as well as for non-physicians, such as industrial hygienists, nurses, safety professionals, and environmental health specialists who are involved in the field.
