It offers employers of new advance practice providers an onboarding opportunity to provide structured, high quality, evidenced based educational OEM material in a virtual format available in one convenient location. Presented by AANP and ACOEM experts in the field, these modules will advance knowledge that can be useful in many settings, including urgent care, primary care, industry-based clinics, employee health, corporate health and more. By completing this foundational OEM program, NPs and other clinicians can increase their understanding of OEM’s many facets, improve their clinical skills and more fully develop the leadership abilities needed to manage the care of the worker.
The program consists of seven modules, each dealing with a different aspect of occupational health practice for the advanced practice provider. SECTION TOPICS, FACULTY, DISCLOSURES, LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Section 1
Triage Considerations in the Occupational Health Setting
Melanie Gibbons Hallman, DNP, CRNP, CNS, FAEN, FAAN
*Nothing to disclose
Understanding basic triage principles is essential for providers working in occupational health settings. The goal of triage is to rapidly recognize the presence of serious illness or injury and then determine the appropriate level of care necessary to safely treat affected workers. The intent of this presentation is to introduce basic triage concepts for application in the care of injured and ill workers. Learners should seek additional education and opportunities to apply triage scoring skills in simulation in preparation for application in the work setting.
Objectives:
• Implement common evidence-based triage algorithms used to determine severity and complexity of injuries and illnesses, and useful for making referral decisions.
• Demonstrate understanding of the association between mechanism of injury and traumatic conditions and apply this knowledge to anticipate and guide focused physical assessments.
• Discuss focused assessments for specific injuries and medical conditions, including methods useful for determining causality and potential impact on function.
Section 2

The occupation medicine history and physical is generally like most medical exams but should be performed from a preventive medicine perspective and include issues of causation and return to function, in particular. This course discusses those nuances and the different types of exams that an occupational nurse practitioner might provide.
Objectives:
• Appreciate the value of a thorough but targeted history and physical exam.
• Understand how the level of prevention correlates with the different types of exams performed in occupational and environmental medicine.
• Tailor the history and physical exam to protect and adequately represent the worker while meeting regulatory requirements and/or the needs of the client requesting (or paying for) the exam.
Section 3
